Open Admin → Tournaments and press + New Tournament. Pressing Create Tournament builds the pool play schedule for every division straight away.
- Under Basic Info, enter the name, start date, location and status, and pick a Liability release.
- Under Courts, name every court you have.
- Under Divisions, set each division's name, Playoff Format, day, courts, timing and teams. + Add Division adds another, and ⧉ Duplicate copies one.
- Press Create Tournament.
- Timing covers the start time, match length, transition, overtime and a break with its own label.
- Max Matches Per Team caps pool play below a full round-robin.
- A bracket-only division skips pool play and seeds the bracket at random.
- Lacey can build all of this from a plain description.
Open it from Admin → Tournaments with Manage, then press Edit Settings. Change what you need and press Save Changes.
- Edit Settings also has each division's Visibility and Pool Schedule Format, and lets you mark a streaming court or a bracket-only court.
- The Public page theme is in Edit Settings too, with its own Save theme button.
- The status menu on the tournament page switches between Upcoming, Active (Live) and Completed. Completed events appear under Results on your site.
On the tournament's page, press 🎟 Registrations. Set the Registration Settings, tick Registration open, and press Save Settings.
- Set the Non-member price, an optional Member price, Capacity (teams), and when registration Opens and Closes.
- Waitlist when full takes a waitlist once the teams are full.
- Individual signup lets players register alone, with a Fee per player.
- A $0 price confirms new registrations straight away.
- Price changes apply to new registrations only.
- Capacity counts confirmed and pending-payment teams. Individual signups never count against it.
- When the tournament has divisions, a captain picks one while registering and the team lands in it. Each division can have its own team limit next to Capacity.
- Players per team sets a minimum and maximum. A full roster refuses new players, and a captain below the minimum is told how many more they need.
- Kept when a captain cancels is what your organization keeps when a captain cancels a paid registration, such as $7. They can cancel until registration closes.
Enter a Member price next to the Non-member price on the Registrations page. A captain with an active membership pays the member price automatically, and your tournament page shows both.
- Leave Member price blank to charge everyone the same.
The Registrations page lists confirmed teams, individuals, pending payments and the waitlist, with totals at the top.
- Promote moves a team off the waitlist.
- Cancel cancels a registration. Any account credit it used goes back to the player.
- Assign an individual to a team with the menu on their row.
- Move a player to another team with Move to… next to their name on a confirmed team. A captain stays with their team.
- Refund asks how much to give back, starting from what they paid by card less the amount kept when a captain cancels. Any credit they used goes back too.
Open the division's tab on the tournament's page and stay on Pool Play. Enter scores there, and use the buttons above the games to change the schedule.
- + Add round adds one empty time slot, one game per court, to fill in by hand.
- ↻ Regenerate rebuilds that division's pool schedule and leaves the others alone. Tick Reshuffle pairings to get different matchups.
- ⌸ Save as template keeps the schedule for reuse, and ⤓ Load template puts a saved one into a division with the same number of teams.
- In Edit Settings, Pool Schedule Format picks round-robin or balanced. Balanced gives every team the same number of games and refereeing turns with no byes, and needs at least twice as many teams as courts.
🔒 Lock schedule saves an exact copy of a division's schedule and allows only score entry until you unlock it. Times, courts, matchups and referees are frozen.
- ↩ Restore locked puts the saved copy back. Games with results are left alone.
- 🔓 Unlock allows schedule changes again and keeps the saved copy.
Open the Bracket tab, pick Single Elimination or Double Elimination, and press + Generate Bracket. Seeds come from the current standings.
- ⇅ Re-seed from standings updates who is in each slot and keeps the times, courts and referees. Games already played keep their matchups.
- Bracket Timing sets the bracket's own match length and gaps.
- ⇔ Share courts across divisions re-times every bracket that day so all courts are shared.
- Clear a single round has Clear results, which keeps the matchups, and Clear round, which empties the slots.
- Clear Bracket removes the bracket.
Open Day Schedule Items & Notices on the tournament's page, add items and notices, and press Save Schedule & Notices.
- A schedule item has a time, a title and a description, such as a lunch break or a team photo.
- For something away from the venue, such as an after-party, fill in the item's place and street address. The public Day Schedule shows them with a Directions link.
- The venue's street address goes on the tournament's Edit page, under Venue name. The top of the Day Schedule shows it with a Directions link.
- Day Schedule photo puts one photo, such as last year's group photo, across the top of the public Day Schedule, with an optional caption.
- Push delays every match at or after the item's time, on that day only, and puts a "Running late" banner on the public page.
- Important Notices show on the public tournament page.
- Full Day Schedule (preview) shows what the public sees.
Press Player Check-in on the tournament's page. Find a player by name or team and tap them when they arrive. Tap again to undo.
- Names come from the tournament's Rosters page.
- A team is checked in as soon as its first player is, which clears the "not checked in" flag on its first game. Team in checks a team in or out by itself.
- Only players not here yet narrows the list to who is still missing.
- Several phones can check people in at once. Each one shows the others' check-ins within 15 seconds.
- Editing a roster keeps everyone's check-in, as long as their name is unchanged.
- Print check-in sheet prints every name with a box to tick on one letter page, two blank lines per team for walk-ups. Anyone already checked in prints with a check. Keep it at the table in case the wifi drops.
Press Player Guide on the tournament's page and write the guide in sections. The public tournament page shows a Read the Player Guide button next to Message the Directors, so players need one link for everything.
- Start with the standard sections fills in section titles only. Write each one, and delete the ones you do not need.
- Each section saves on its own when you click away from a box. Use the arrows to change the order.
- Cover photo goes across the top of the guide with the title over it. Without one, the guide uses the Day Schedule photo.
- Each section can have a photo, shown beside its text on a computer and above it on a phone, and a highlight: the theme colour or alert red. The colours follow the tournament's theme.
- Tick Show the Day Schedule here on a section to put the Day Schedule's times in it, above your own text. They change when the Day Schedule changes, so the guide never shows old times. Keep your own text for anything else, like where to park.
- Formatting: **bold**, a line starting with "- " for bullets, "1. " for numbers, and [link text](https://…) for links. Web and email addresses link on their own.
- You can also edit it where players read it: open the guide page while signed in as an admin on your organization's own address and press Edit this guide. Titles and text become boxes in place and save when you click away. Photos, highlights and order stay on the Player Guide admin page.
- For the guide on its own, with nothing else on the page, use Guide page / PDF on the Player Guide admin page. Its link is the tournament link with /guide on the end. Print / Save PDF there makes a letter-size PDF.
Find Live Score Entry on the tournament's page, press Enable, and share the link with Copy. Anyone with the link can submit scores.
- Rotate replaces the link and stops the old one.
- Disable turns score entry off.
- A score is saved as the final score the moment it is entered.
- Seasons also have a link per court. See court score links.
No. LaceUp shows final scores. A score entered from the score link, a court link or the admin is saved as final, and the game moves to Latest results.
- To show that a game is underway, set its status to In Progress on the tournament's admin page. The board marks it Live until its score is entered.
- Entering both scores in the admin marks the game Completed, whatever its status was.
Currently Playing on the public tournament page shows what is on each court right now, worked out from the clock. On court now gives one card per court. By time steps through the day one time slot at a time.
- Each court card shows the game on now with its referee, and the game up next. Between games it shows the last final.
- A game set to In Progress in the admin is marked Live. Otherwise the card shows the latest game whose start time has passed without a final score, marked On now.
- A game left without a score for two full time slots is treated as over, so the board moves on.
- Latest results, under the board, lists the most recent finals.
- Tick the Divisions and Courts to show. The address bar keeps your picks, so a bookmark opens the same view.
- The page refreshes on its own every 30 seconds.
Open Currently Playing on the public tournament page, pick what that TV should show, and press 📺 TV board. It opens full screen in a new tab with a clock, and keeps itself up to date.
- Open your tournament's public page and choose Currently Playing.
- Tick the divisions and courts for this screen, such as one TV for each end of the gym.
- Tick Rotate courts to page through a few courts at a time.
- Press 📺 TV board, and bookmark that tab on the TV's browser.
- The board's address ends in ?tv=1. Add &rotate=1 to page through the courts, &per= for how many a page shows (1 to 12, 6 unless you set it) and &every= for the seconds each page stays up (5 to 120, 15 unless you set it).
- Divisions and courts are in the address as div= and court=, by name in lowercase with hyphens, such as div=open&court=court-1,court-2. A court can also be given by its number.
- A bookmark that names a division or court that no longer exists shows everything.
- Exit TV board, at the bottom, goes back to the normal page.
- The TV board is part of the public page, so the TV needs no sign-in.
Push the schedule. Under Day Schedule Items & Notices, add an item at the time the delay starts, enter the minutes in its push box, and press Save Schedule & Notices. Every game from that time on moves back, and the public page and TV board show a banner such as "Running 15 min behind".
- The banner says "Times shown include the delay", because the times on the page are already the new ones.
- It lists each push with its title, minutes and time. Pushes add up: two 10 minute pushes show as 20 min behind.
- A push moves games on its own day only. Games in a locked division stay where they are.
- A bracket generated, regenerated or re-timed after a push keeps the push, so its games start late by the same amount.
- Set the push back to 0, or remove the item, and the games move back.
Every bracket game still to be played says where it leads. Currently Playing reads "Winner plays Team A on Court 3 at ~2:40 PM", and a team's own schedule reads "Win and you play…".
- In double elimination the losing side is named too: "Loser plays…" on the board, "Lose and you play…" on a team's schedule.
- When the next opponent is not known yet, the line names the game they come from.
- The final says who is champion. A grand final that can go to a deciding game says so.
- Times start with ~ because they move when the day runs late.
- The lines go away once the game has a score.
Off is how many pool play rounds a team sits out. A team's own schedule counts all three, such as Plays 5 · Refs 2 · Off 1.
- Above the list, the Team Schedule says how many rounds teams sit out, and flags any team that sits out 2 or more rounds more than the others, so you can rebalance before the day.
- The same counts show on the public page and on 🖨 Print all team schedules.
Open the Check-in tab on the tournament's page and tap each team as it arrives. The tab shows how many are in, such as 9/12.
- Find a team searches by name. Not here yet shows only the teams still to arrive.
- Each team shows its first game's time and court until it checks in, then the time it checked in.
- Tap a checked-in team to undo it.
- Nothing is flagged until you check in the first team, so a tournament that does not use check-in never shows teams as missing.
Once you have checked in at least one team, a team that has not checked in is flagged on its first game in Pool Play. After that game's start time, press Record forfeit, check the score, and press Save forfeit.
- The score starts at 1–0 for the team that showed up. Change it to suit your rules. The team that showed up needs the higher score.
- Record forfeit is offered only when exactly one of the two teams is missing and the game has no score. When both are missing, enter the result yourself.
- A forfeit is saved like any other score, the game's note says Forfeit, and the Audit Log records it.
Set its Visibility in Edit Settings, or press 📦 Archive on the tournament's page when its day is over.
- Live is fully public.
- Preview is public and marked tentative.
- Hidden is not shown to the public.
- Archived is not public and is folded out of the admin tabs. Restore to Live or Restore as Hidden brings it back. Nothing is deleted.
Press Enable under MVP Tracking on the tournament's page. In pool play, each team picks an MVP from the team it played, on the line already printed on the scoresheets.
- An MVP tab appears with a tally per division, and Enter picks from the sheets for typing them in.
- Scorekeepers see MVP fields on the score entry page.
- MVP tracking collects the nominations. To name the winner on the results page, give an MVP award.
Use the Awards box on the tournament's page. Add an award, name its winners, and turn on Show on results once it is announced.
- Type the award's name under New award, or use Quick add: MVP, Best Costume, Best Team Costume or Spirit Award.
- Pick Given to (A player or A team) and For (the whole tournament or one division), then press Add award.
- Add the winner: a team, or a player's name with their team if you like. Add another winner covers a tie.
- Tick Show on results when you announce it.
- Shown awards appear on the results page and its Instagram slides.
- An award stays off the results page until you show it, so you can fill it in before the ceremony.
- Delete removes the award and its winners.
Upload it under Venue map on the tournament's page. The public tournament page shows it so teams can find their court.
- A photo or a screenshot works. Large images are shrunk to fit before they upload.
- The public page shows it within a minute, and visitors can open it full size.
- Replace map and Remove map are in the same box.
Yes. Open the tournament, press Edit Settings, pick a Public page theme, and press Save theme. The choices are Default, Halloween, Lavender and Custom.
- Default uses your organization's own colors.
- Halloween is a dark page in pumpkin orange and purple, with a cobweb and a few bats.
- Lavender is lavender and purple on a light page.
- Custom takes a Primary, an Accent and a Background color. A color too close to the background to read is refused, and the preview shows how it looks before you save.
- The theme covers the public page, Currently Playing and the TV board, and the results poster. Printed sheets stay white and only change ink color.
- The public pages show a new theme on their next refresh.
- Seasons always use your organization's colors.
Press 📊 Analytics on the tournament's page for how the day ran, from what LaceUp recorded. A figure without enough data behind it says Not measured and what is missing, instead of showing zero.
- Court utilization: match time booked on the courts in use, as a share of the time from the first start to the last finish of each day. Gaps between rounds and breaks count as unused.
- Forfeits: games recorded with Record forfeit or whose game note says forfeit or no-show, and how many games were never scored.
- Player no-shows: from player history, out of the players whose attendance was recorded.
- Match overrun: how far games ran past their planned length, on average and at the median, timed from the start to the moment the score was entered. Every way of entering a score is timed, wherever it came from. Games scored before this was being kept carry no time, and a score entered more than 90 minutes late is left out.
- Revenue recorded in LaceUp: registrations paid in LaceUp and payment records imported into player history, less refunds. Memberships, donations and entry fees collected anywhere else are left out, so it is not the event's full revenue.
- Seasons have no Analytics page.
Each printout is a button on the tournament's page and opens in a new tab ready to print.
- 🖨 Print: the schedule, standings and bracket.
- 📋 Scoresheets: match sheets, court packets, blank templates and an example sheet, with how many per page and which divisions.
- 🏆 Bracket Sheets: the bracket on paper.
- 🖨 Print all team schedules, on the Team Schedule tab: one card per team, with captain names.
- 🪧 Signage: one sign per sheet for court numbers, stations such as check-in and first aid, and your own signs. Tick what to print.
- 🥇 Results: the results poster for each division.
⬇ Export CSV on the tournament's page gives you pool play and the bracket as one file for Excel or Google Sheets.
- ⬇ Pool TSV and ⬇ Bracket TSV give the current division as a grid with courts as columns, for a paper backup sheet.
Press 🥇 Results on the tournament's page. Each division gets a poster with the podium, final standings and finished bracket. Screenshot it for social media or save it as a PDF.
- Set the tournament's status to Completed and it appears under Results on your site.
Open the Compare tab. Two divisions sit side by side on one timeline, and each row shows which courts are free.
- Move one game at a time by typing a new time or dragging it to another row.
Your public tournament page has a Message the Directors button. Messages land on the tournament's admin page, and the Tournaments list shows how many are unread.
- Mark all read clears the unread count.
Open Audit Log on the tournament's page. It lists recent admin changes such as scores, schedule edits and bracket generation.
Press Delete on the tournament's page and confirm with Yes, Delete. It removes the tournament with its matches, teams and divisions.
- A tournament with registrations, payments or recorded scores cannot be deleted. Set it to Completed instead.
Open Admin → Tools → Spin Wheel. Type a prompt, add the options, and press Spin. Every option is equally likely.
- Type a Prompt, such as "Who picks first?".
- Add up to 24 options. Paste a list adds many at once, one per line.
- Press Spin.
- Each option gets a color. Press its swatch to change it, or press Recolour.
- Spin length sets how long a spin takes, from 3 to 15 seconds.
- Remove the winner after each spin is for picking an order. Reset puts everyone back.
- Write every name as keeps the list consistent: Capitalize Each Word turns "sam rivera" and "SAM RIVERA" into "Sam Rivera", ALL CAPS writes them in capitals, and As typed leaves them alone. Changing it rewrites the names already on the wheel.
- Confetti when a winner is picked throws confetti over the screen, on the presenter view too. Untick it to turn it off.
- The wheel you are working on stays in this browser, so a reload keeps it. Start a new wheel clears it.
Press Presenter view ↗ under the wheel. It opens the wheel large on a dark screen in a new tab. Press Full screen, then Space or Enter to spin.
- The presenter view follows the edits you make in the editor, in the same browser.

- Save changes updates the wheel you opened. Save as new keeps it and saves a copy.
- Delete removes the saved wheel.
- A wheel needs at least two options to save.
